Excellent! To be able to open a file (such as *.docx or *.pdf) a computer needs to have a program installed that understands the file format (eg MS Word or Adobe Reader).
The place where you bought the computer really should have installed the free Adobe Reader as standard. We'll sort that out first.
Adobe PDF Reader
1. Go to this link in whatever browser you're using -
https://get.adobe.com/reader/
2. Make sure that you
untick the optional software. You don't want it.
3. Follow the prompts to download the installer and run it. If it downloads and you can't see a tab to click on at the bottom of your browser, the installer will probably be in your Downloads folder.
4. Don't install any free trials that Adobe offers you, it'll just make things trickier later on.
5. PDF files should now have their own icon next to the filename which tells you that Windows recognises what they are. Double clicking one should open it in Adobe Reader.
File unzipper
There are lots of different unzippers but 7-zip is free and recognises a wide-range of file types (there are many more than "zip").
1. Go to this direct link
https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1900-x64.msi - the file will begin to download.
2. Double-click it to start the Microsoft Installation.
3. Deselect any optional software they might try to give you (last time I looked there wasn't any but it's always a good idea to check).
4. Once it's registered with Windows, any zip files should be recognised. The program should also add some more options into the context-sensitive menus (the ones you get when you right-click the mouse on something). You can either double-click a zip file to start the program or you can R-click on it and choose how you wish to extract the files that are packaged inside.
GHS files
This is the Global High-Score table for a LaserTank level. It only has meaning within LT. Windows doesn't know which program to run when you try to open it because LaserTank can't be registered like regular programs.
So you must run LT and then open it from within the LT program.
If you haven't installed LaserTank, you'll need to do that. Go here -
https://laser-tank.com/ltank_en.html - and click on
Download Game. You want the Install version.
It's best to give LT it's own folder; eg C:\LaserTank or C:\Games\LaserTank (whatever suits you). Then put the new level zip files in the same folder.
There is a little program that you can download from the site that will unzip everything and update your LaserTank files to the latest versions for you. We can talk about that once you've got the above sorted.
Let me know if you run into trouble.
